e-species will be a unique web site and mobile app for use in schools and homes, beginning in the UK. With the guidance of teachers and parents, adults and young people alike will be able to help create a balance sheet, detailing the species of flora and fauna around their locations.
Users will learn about the fragility of our ecosystem (it is estimated that up to half the world's species of animals and plants could be extinct or on the danger list by the end of the twenty-first century), observing the changes between the seasons and the flora and fauna visible to them, year after year. This is a zeitgeist innovation which will enable today's young people to grow up much better informed about the natural world than previous generations; it is an initiative that will drive young people to engage with the environment around them in an enjoyable as well as educational manner, supported by the education sector and underpinned by technology that will make it easy to do. It is even possible that species previously unknown to science (and there are estimated to be +/- 2.9 million!) might be discovered and named by our users.
If you believe your company or organisation is interested in becoming involved with this development, we will be happy to hear from you to answer any questions you might have and expand on what you have seen so far. Please find our contact details below: |
